TVB Will Give Best Actor Award to Moses Chan?
The 2013 TVB Anniversary Awards ceremony will be held on Monday, December 16. Dismissing last year’s one-person-per-vote system, the winners for the three main awards of the night (Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Drama) will be decided by a panel of professional judges. Allegedly, this is one of TVB’s tactics to name Moses Chan (陳豪) as this year’s TV King for his performance in the currently broadcast Will Power <法外風雲>. Since his contract is deemed to expire in the beginning of next year, TVB highly hopes to keep Moses at the company.
Without the public’s ability to choose the Best Actor, popular contenders such as Francis Ng (吳鎮宇), Chilam Cheung (張智霖), and Wayne Lai (黎耀祥), will likely not have a chance. According to reports, TVB will give the award to Moses in exchange for the renewal of his contract. Not wanting to lose yet another siu sang, TVB General Manager, Mark Lee (李寶安), had offered Moses this condition to get him to stay.
TVB management executive, Virginia Lok (樂易玲), confirmed having discussed with Moses about his contract renewal. “Renewing the contract shouldn’t be a problem. Things are well underway at the moment,” Ms. Lok announced. However, according to an insider, Moses took the contract home a long time ago but made no further moves. When asked about the contract, he gave a ton of excuses, saying he was not in Hong Kong or was busy with work. On the other hand, some tabloids reported Moses may have intentions of working with other broadcasting companies.
Unsure of Moses’ future plan, TVB is allegedly in a panic and rage. The insider noted, “Mr. Lee expressed if Moses does end up leaving TVB even after taking home this year’s Best Actor award, they will never collaborate with him again!” When Ms. Lok was reached for comments regarding Moses’ contract renewal in exchange for the award, she expressed, “No, we had the discussion [about the contract] a long time ago. It wasn’t recent!”
In addition, it was reported that Tavia Yeung (楊枱), Ron Ng (吳卓羲), and Raymond Lam (林峯), will not be receiving any main awards of the night since they allegedly have plans to leave TVB and pursue their careers elsewhere.

He’s proven a lot in his short career. He may not be an Einstein in everything but he’s a well rounded artist with eggs in many baskets.
I will miss him at TVB but he’s ready to try other things. We need someone in his age group to get popular in movies.

He is the least deserving out of the bunch. In the last few years he’s known for his relationship and this year ; his highly publicized marriage with aimee chan. I honestly think he can’t act.. he’s good at being witty but truly evoking emotions and any sort of acting ability? Not really.
His acting is getting worse; it’s lack-lustre and boring. Used to quite like his shows but after that horrible drama with Charmaine “For in love” or something like that, i stopped watching his shows. Honestly his acting bores me to tears. Like someone mentioned, his claim to fame this year is due to his high profile shot-gun wedding.
He’s ok on the personality side but this high profile expo of his relationship with Aimee, etc, made him looked like the only bachelor on earth, so tiring and cheap. I’m not a huge fan of Moses but his acting is only so-so. If he wants to leave, so be it. This bargaining for an award is very unfair to his other hardworking colleagues.

Hope you dont be nob. Best acting skill? All this is very subjective. How to proof who having the best skill? You think this is science it can be proven? This is no universal rule for this. Some girls like handsome guy, some girls like richfag, some girls just like good attitude guy. So its all very subjective who deserves the award!

I totaly agree with Elisabella and you should not worry about subjective voting because this year the best actor will be voted by the professional judges and not everyone has the right to vote.
err, haha, but still the top management of TVB has right to choose whoever they want lar. Not like their discussion is visible to the public right. Its more like based on whoever they like only. This year i dont think any actor has extraordinary acting skill so far. So still just based on whoever you like ler and very subjective.
Moses’ acting is pretty good in Will Power so far, but Wayne did an excellent job for his role. Also, Ruco’s performance in Brother’s Keeper has been great.
In the end, I support Wayne, Ruco, or Kenneth for Best Actor award this year.

You’re saying this is corruption but nothing more corrupting than your comment. If anything, Francis Ng deserves the award most. Though Chilam is a outstanding actor as well, his true potential was totally overshadowed by his popular role as ‘Captain Cool’. Acting wise, I don’t see any difference between him and the other actors in TITS2 (excluding Francis).
S/he did say Favourite Male Character. That doesn’t necessarily equate to great acting.
There’s always someone’s contract that will be up for renewal. I don’t think there are that many awards to exchange for contract renewal. 😛 If he does end up renewing, it’s more likely that he wants to stay in Hong Kong since he has a baby on the way.
I’m actually enjoying the Moses vs Wayne thing in Will Power. Pretty good series so far.
Another example of TVB awards meaning absolutely nothing since they just give it to whoever they want to, not the ones that truly deserve it. I really miss the good old days when TVB truly gave it the talented ones that did deserve it.
And which years were those?
The only ones that I can think of off the top of my head was Tony Leung Chiu Wai winning for Wei Xiao Bao back in the 80s and Esther Kwan winning for Miao Shui Hua in the 90s. I think they both acted well in their roles and truly deserved it. However, those were the olden days.
TVB awards have always been for promotion. It just so happens that some years they promote people who deserved the award. I don’t think there’s any good old days. It’s always been the same.

I don’t find anything wrong with the awards being for promotion. That’s why I don’t believe TVB has to give it to the most deserving person. They should give it to the most deserving person who needs it. The award doesn’t need to recognize the most talented as long as the winner is deserving in their own right.

If you are saying about TV ship then yes, in HK Txb is still the biggest. But there is an ocean out of Txb named China and/or movie. The problem is: who can swim well enough to go through such ocean.

Moses does deserve an award for his likeable character in Will Power although not the most outstanding performance yet for him. So far, both Wayne and Moses pairing in Will Power is really entertaining and I am really enjoying it. The story and the execution is great! Very enjoyable with elements of humour and relationships being expressed.
My favourite will always be Wayne but again his portrayal as Lawyer Wilson Yu in Will Power may not win him the TVKing this year. Not because he is not good but not his best yet although he is great. Of course Wayne will always be my fav and if can i want him to be TV king every year. At the same time, i hope his drama Rosy Business 3 which did not air this yr (hopefully next year) will create history again….another TV king.

Well, TVB captured wayne’s heart very well. That’s why last year suppose Raymond who got the award but still gave it to wayne. Wayne will forever with TVB and wont go mainland for drama. TVB will be safe have wayne with them forever or at least for the next 10 years.

She said wayne dislike changes and wont move to china for his career. Haha. You see, tvb surely analyse wayne very well. No matter how , TVB itself is still a business. Must know how to handle their staffs well. Once you know how to capture ur staff’s heart, then everything will be good. Ma Ming said himself a 5 year one signed this year. If he gets the award, maybe it will turn 10 or 12 like his previous contract. Longer, better chance to win, regardingless acting.
Btw, SSSS is airing on one local channel in my place and wow, Im so surprised at Ma Ming’s acting. It’s so… terrible. He pouted and pouted and pouted more, another one pose wonder.

Putting a veteran actor who’s already certified with a ‘Best Actor’ title and widely known for his acting skills (Francis Ng), against a Siu Sangs (Moses/Kenneth) that is still struggling in TVB’s little cage, isn’t that unfair?
Because of Francis, we as the audience seems to be blinded by the fact that Moses and Kenneth actually did a well job in their respective role. Well, I don’t know about Kenneth because his drama hasn’t release yet.
Chilam Cheung on the other hand, let’s be honest guys. His acting was totally overshadowed by Francis Ng in TITS2. The only reason he stands out among the ‘contenders’ is because of his lovable role as ‘Captain Cool’. But if you really compare him to any other actors in TITS2 (aside from Francis), he’s really no difference than others.
By the way, I do wonder why nobody’s rooting for Bobby? I didn’t watch his drama, but I’m curious why there’s no sound from him？

These rumors always pop up this time of the year. I seriously doubt Moses cares about the award enough to resign with TVB just for the award. He’s won it before and he’s already an established artist. No way the award is enough to keep Moses with TVB if Moses is considering leaving. The amount of money he can make not resigning is definitely worth more than a TVB award.
This is complete BS. Award for the best actor should clearly be Francis Ng. We all know Francis performance was overwhelming. Sorry Moses, maybe another year. Best Actor Award should definitely stand for what it stands for. Not corruption. Don’t forget Moses Chan has already won the Best Actor award like 4-5 years ago with Heart of Greed. He is not struggling under TVB’s bird cage. TBH it’s likely of Moses staying in TVB anyways. If not, where else can he go?
If the audience or viewers can not see that the TVB actor or actress awards are rigged so that those artists obey and follow TVB gets the “grand prize”, then they view that HKTV lost out to the TV licensing because they were the “least qualified” as stated by the tabloids. I feel TVB and the HK licensing board were in bed together planning this whole conspiracy because may ex-TVB artists defected early on.

There was news earlier that TVB will give it to Kenneth besides Kenneth has just signed a 5 year contract this year and secured himself in TVB. I prefer TVB to give it to Kenneth because Moses is not that good of an actor and he has won the award. Kenneth hasn’t won anything and need it more than Moses. OC2 is also a much anticipated series and Kenneth’s character will go through a lot of emotional brrakdowns such as tavia’s miscarriage, his own severe accident and his psychological problem. Tell me if this kind of role is not an award material compared to Moses role in WP.
Honestly, Ma Ming isn’t better as an actor than Moses. I wonder if the character in On call made him interesting or not because his acting in SSSS is so disappointed, same to TITS2. When will he give up pouting? I find Moses has more expressions on face than Ma Ming anytime, or at least Moses portrayed his roles, not pout to it.
So between Moses and Ma Ming, I prefer Moses. Ma Ming should improve his acting first. He isn’t up to the league.
Agree with fox the only good series Kenneth did was oncall36 it was a really good script for Kenneth and if the 2nd oncall36 has a good script for Kenneth again he might win. And he signed a 5 years contract so that helps a lot. I find Moses a better actor.

Captain cool won’t get it cause he is not part of tvb. By that I mean not signed in with tvb like how other actors are. And the system is not basic ed on voting.

he doesn’t deserve it. The only people who thinks he deserves it are those who are charmed by his Capt Cool character. In any case, was his role difficult and did it stretch his acting ability? I think not. Capt Cool is just a charming character (but sorry, he didn’t charm me at all) and women just love a playboy in pilot uniform cos i think it’s part of a woman’s fantasy to be wooed by such a man. Character development and difficulty in portraying that role is nothing
lawerence as a doctor can beat anyone just his face looks like a real doctor no matter what role he get when it comes to being a doctor.. out of all the doctors ive seen none of them look more like a doctor then lawrence ng

I thought for sure they would give it to Francis as a reward for filming with them and to entice other high profile actors to come film for them since they were scared to death of HKTV.
Now that HKTV is no longer a threat, I guess they will go back to the incentive/bribe policy since that always seemed to work for them in the past.

His acting in When Heaven Burns is pretty decent. Don’t think his role in Will Power is challenging. TVB has 100% absolute power to decide and arrange who will get TVB Awards, no contest here.
I don’t think Moses will leave at this crucial time of his life. He just got married and is about to become a father. He needs money to pay for a new wife and son. It would be very risky for him to venture to other companies (if there are any for him to go to since Government declined HKTV). He obviously will not go into the China market cause first his Mando sucks and second, he’s so in love with Amy he couldn’t bare being apart from her for work in china for a long period of time. TVB is the only company now that can give him support materially.
