Vicky Chan Apologizes for Past Eating Disorder
Stepping into her 30s next year, Come Home Love: Lo and Behold <愛·回家之開心速遞> actress Vicky Chan (陳偉琪) took a set of photos for memory’s sake of her 20s. Oozing sex appeal in the photoshoot, Vicky showed off her healthy and slim figure with cool poses. Posting the collection on Instagram, she penned an open letter sharing her history with bulimia.
“Lots of girls I’ve talked to have a shared experience: hating our bodies,” Vicky expressed on social media. “I’ve also been very insecure and mistreating my body, and I thought I’d use this opportunity to apologize.”
In the past, she used a very extreme method to lose weight in university when she weighed 150 pounds. By not eating and only drinking water for one month, she was eventually able to reach 98 pounds. “It was extremely unhealthy,” she acknowledged. “I was always tired and started developing depression as a result. People should not try this method at all and should instead lose weight using healthy methods like exercising and watching your diet. Weight loss should be a slow process; don’t rush it.”
Vicky now maintains her physique by doing sports that she enjoys, like basketball, Muay Thai, and swimming. “It has taken me years to forgive myself for not looking 100 percent fit with abs all the time, and then the sense of forgiveness turned into gratitude. I’m just grateful for all that my body has allowed me to do. Thank you for all you’ve done and sorry for the years I’ve mistreated you by being bulimic,” she wrote on Instagram.
Looking forward to the years ahead with this positive mindset, Vicky hopes to step into her 30s with a healthy body to be her true self. She said, “I think that is the real definition of freedom and also wisdom.”
