Vincent Wong: “If I Can Go Back In Time…”
It took Vincent Wong (王浩信) nearly ten years to go from supporting male number one to the male number one. The 32-year-old, who debuted as a singer in 2005, joined TVB in 2007 and played a string of supporting characters before finally nabbing leading male roles last year. In the crime thriller Over Run Over <EU超時任務>, which recently completed its broadcast, Vincent led the series as the walled village chief Ditch, a time traveler. Vincent’s hilarious Weitou dialect is one of the shining elements in the otherwise dark series—a time traveling story that involved fatal consequences.
If Vincent was given the ability to time travel, what would he do with it? The actor said he would want to go back in time to when he was 16 years old, when he met his first crush. “I was dumped because I was too shy and passive. I want to go back and change the ending.”
Active and athletic, Vincent used to play a lot of badminton in between breaks at school. “Many female students liked to watch us play, even the haufa [most beautiful and popular girl in school]. Whenever I saw her, my heart would race.”
Vincent said he didn’t have the guts to ask her out. “One of my classmates was a great flirt and he successfully asked her out, but they only dated for a week. It turned out that she was his rebound. At the time I really hated myself for not having enough courage to ask her out. Although I did end up confessing, we also only dated for a week, because I was also her rebound.”
But whatever happened in the past, stays in the past. Vincent looks forward to the future. Married to fellow actress Yoyo Chen (陳自瑤), the couple also have a 4-year-old daughter, born in April 2012.
Admitting that he wants a second child, Vincent said, “If I can time travel, I want to see if I’ll have a son. Our family dynamics are changing. My daughter is growing up. Our roles as mother and father are solidifying, and it has never been this clear. I really enjoy this aspect of my life—to know that I’m happy and safe with my family. It makes me want to spend more time with them.”
Since giving birth to their daughter in 2012, Yoyo has since slowed down her work output to stay at home to care for their daughter, while Vincent continued to pursue a successful career in television.
Two months ago, while shooting the TVB drama Dead Wrong <致命復活>, Vincent got involved in a rather serious car accident. He was hospitalized for about a week.
Vincent said the accident changed him as a person. “After seeing my wife worried and hurt over my condition, I knew I was being selfish. I was stubborn. I needed to do everything myself. Even if I knew it’d be risky, I still insisted to do it. But after getting hurt, my wife didn’t rush to me to ask me if I was alright. She just sat there silently beside me, worried. If I could go back in time, I’ll ask a stunt double to replace me.”
Vincent and Yoyo have been married for four years. Vincent laughed and said that although they are no longer in their honeymoon phase, the passionate love they have for each other never left.
“Ah Yo is someone who really needs love. Our perceptions of love has never changed. It’s not a passionate kind of love, but a love that involves mutual trust. We’re always honest with each other and we don’t hold anything back. Only she knows me the best. No one else can replace her.
“It’s like addiction,” Vincent said when he was asked to describe his current relationship with Yoyo. “The longer your relationship is established, the more comfortable you are with each other. The attraction is stronger. It’s like addiction. It’s impossible to quit. Eventually, you’ll realize that you want to spend more and more time with each other, spend more and more time at home.”

I’ve always been a fan of Vincent Wong, even from his singing days. Glad to see his acting talent is finally getting recognised as he’s been so underrated all this time. He’s done really well in Over Run Over – things really only got interesting when he started travelling back in time. I really only kept watching because of him.
I was just watching Sergeant Tabloid recently, and he was the ex-boyfriend of Niki Chow. It was funny to see him, or see stars play supporting roles before they become lead roles.
He sound like such a sweet hubby. May they be bless with more children for sure!!! Yoyo have really taken a back seat on her career since since they got married. I actually like Yoyo.. pretty and can act IMO.
@happybi
She has always been pretty and one of those underrated actresses as well. TVB always seem to be like that, I don’t know if Yoyo Chan is a Ms. HK but it seems to me TVB only promotes the MS. HK’s more than the acting classes? They are a cute couple. Not too famous and just right and started a family at an age that’s not too early or too late. Nice to finally see him in more meatier roles.
@kiki just googled her and she is not a miss hk it seem. Probably why she wasn’t really promoted. Wished they cast her in better role then a mistress. Don’t know why they promoted that Suki girl and not her. Also think she look much prettier than Suki and act better.
@kiki Tavia and Myolie are both from acting class too how come they’re so famous? I don’t understand that part either. I have to agree she’s a better actress than those newbie alots.
Ehm…if I was Yoyo, I’d be a little bit upset that he wants to go back in time to re-date his ex lol.
I don’t know if he’s saying that ’cause he’s too honest & wants to commiserate what he regret about not doing back then or he’s just oblivious to his response.
I don’t care so much ’cause I’m a viewer (and perhaps a new fan), but if I was his wife, I wouldn’t be a happy camper to read this.
I think everyone has many things they would have done differently if they had the chance to go back. We become more mature and experienced as we grow older so would handle things differently if we had the chance to return to the past. Just like in the series, we could try alternative methods and results may be different;therefore our life can change for the better or at least gain a new life experience.
@coralie I know right? When I was reading what he say about his past I was like seriously? What is your wife going to say about that? If he still a single guy then it’s a different story but then since he’s already married still think about his past? Wake up!!!
@asian2015 yup yup agreed. and vice versa too. like he won’t be happy if yoyo said the same thing about her ex lol. some guys can be too honest and insensitive. i think vincent recognizes a bit of that now, since he said it wasn’t until he got into an accident, that he realizes how much of a burden he’s placing on his family and how selfish he’s been.
but stuff like this also makes me wonder just how honest should couples be with each other. and if they’re not 100% honest with each other, is that ok?
It took me a while to like Vincent but he really caught my attention after “Gun, Metal, Grey”. I hope he gets more leading roles in the future.
