Wayne Lai Moves To New Home To Boost Career Luck
Three-time TV King Wayne Lai (黎耀祥) is in need of good luck. Although his popularity skyrocketed after his riveting performances in Rosy Business <巾幗梟雄> and No Regrets <巾幗梟雄之義海豪情>, his more recent series have failed to capture the same level of attention. To give his career a much-needed boost, Wayne has moved into a new home and set it up according to good feng shui practices.
Wayne’s career has seen a slow decline following the heavily criticized Bullet Brain <神探高倫布> and the lukewarm Will Power <法外風雲>. Already half-way through 2014, TVB has yet to air any of Wayne’s newer series. While his collaboration with Louisa So (蘇玉華), Rear Mirror <載得有情人>, was scheduled to air in April, TVB ultimately pulled the drama from its lineup in favor of Mainland epic Journey To The West <西遊記>. His highly anticipated drama No Reserve <巾幗梟雄之諜血長天> still has no release date, and rumor has it that the series has been shelved indefinitely since it shares the same screenwriter as the ill-fated Bullet Brain.
With his contract expiring next summer, Wayne is surely under pressure to perform well before renewal negotiations. Currently filming Trade Wars <商戰>, the 50-year-old was seen shopping for goldfishes during breaks, allegedly to add to his impressive feng shui set up. Concerned about his future, Wayne reportedly moved into a home in Sheung Shui last year that rents for $70,000 HKD a month. The new home has been decorated to encourage favorable feng shui, and Wayne apparently re-arranges the space every month to achieve an optimal set up.
Whether his new strategy will truly help his career remains to be seen. Aside from No Reserve and Rear Mirror, his inventory also boasts Mainland-Hong Kong collaboration Master Of Destiny <風雲天地> and the newly remade Under the Veil <無雙譜>. So far, his effort to boost his luck have brought nothing but trouble; his new home was among the three that were robbed last October, though luckily neither him nor his family suffered any physical harm.

I agree with Larry that Maggie is delusional. TVB series are really bad lately. Honestly, even back in the days when TVB produced better series,they still had flaws but the flaws were more minimal as opposed to now where the flaws are so bad to the point of no return.
I used to watch 80-85% TVB back in the days,but now I only watch about 10-15% TVB. I now watch mostly mainland,Taiwanese,Korean or anything non TVB which shows how bad TVB is lately. Plus,there are way better options so why watch TVB? I only watch TVB if I run out of things to watch or hear really good reviews about 1-2 series so I would give them a try. But other than that,I do not watch TVB. TVB is just not like it used to be be and gosh are they cheap. I love ancient series but all they make are modern or police series because they lack resources and are cheap.

His acting is great, no doubt, it is just the drama storylines are very poor. Wasting alot of actors talents with the scripts these days.

I do not think that Wayne moved to new house for good luck; if he really care about feng shui then he would still stay at his old house because it had brought about 3 TV King for him. For me, he is a very good actor and many producer still want to find him for their series; after series Trade War there are 3 more series waiting for him.

You obviously dont know much about feng shui. It changes all the time, so the old house, having brought wayne luck previously, doesn’t mean it’ll continue to do so, hence the need for him to move.
Personally i don’t think feng shui has anything to do with the decline in his popularity as suggested by the poor reception of his recent dramas. Perhaps the drama has a poor script or people are tired of watching him, plain and simple as that. But of cos if you believe in feng shui, you can change this run of misfortune by shifting the feng shui in your favor.
Because Wayne did not believe much in feng sui that he left the old house which had bring about 3 TV King for him to move to a large house for a more comfortable life he had been hit hardly by Bullet Brain even though that series is not too bad.
I don’t doubt Wayne’s acting. It’s def the lack of good scripts and perhaps female leads of his caliber. I do miss the Wayne and Sheren duo.

I really wish tvb can add creativity to not only to the storylines but also to the characters in the story.
Story plots are important, but a character development is just as important as well. I do not want to see a character that is the same throughout the whole drama, with no changes to attitude or behaviors
I really want more of Wayne-sheren pairing on tv. There are not alot of actresses in tvb that can match with Wayne, therefore, I would like sheren to comeback to film with him once or twice again.

Anticipating trade wars, as well, from tvb sales presentation, the five tigers. Wayne looks semi-evil and semi-good in that trailer. I just love these types of characters. Wayne is really good with this type of role, sort of like tvb Off pedder

I don’t think Wayne is worried too much of his career. He might want to move to a safer place to live, since in that home/neighborhood he got robbed. So moving to another area is a good option
What a waste airing JTTW. I don’t understand why TVB always rush to film a series and take them years to air it on tv. It’s a waste some series didnt make the cut. They should air 3 series a day. They should rerun some of the 90’s and 2000’s series.

ATV is airing MDWAV trilogy starting this week to take advantage of the low ratings for JTTW but the first episode only got 1 pt.
1 point is not because it not good, it because most people already watch MDWAV when it first come out.

Actually I thought many of the older ATV series were even better than the old TVB series,but it also depends on the series.

I disagree, Wayne’s acting was great in bullet brain, it was just the script and the female lead dragged it down.
Sire ma took more than half of the screen time in the overall drama. In the beginning Wayne has lesser screen time and was mostly in a coma. Near the end, Wayne and Nat’s acting was terrific, the ending of the story was horrible

I will rewatch Detective Columbo but fast-foward the Madam Eva (Sire Ma) parts. Those are the parts that bring the series down.

Wayne has good screen chemistry with Christine Ng and Charmaine Sheh. However, pairing him up with Kate Tsui or Louisa So is a recipe for disaster. Like other viwers have stated, a good storyline with good scripts are a must have. Good supporting actors/actresses are needed to carry the show.

My fav roles with him to date include journey to the west and 巾幗梟 (1st one.) They already proved his acting range is incredible. You cant have roles more different from each other. Too bad tvb only cares about glossy roles these days rather than funky roles, which actually develops character.
