Wayne Lai Responds to “No Reserve” Rumors

Wayne Lai (黎耀祥) and Louisa So’s (蘇玉華) drama Rear Mirror <載得有情人>, which aired its finale in Hong Kong yesterday, earned positive feedback from viewers. Although certain viewers find the slow-paced drama to be boring, Wayne expressed that the script’s soft and mellow storyline is the focus of Rear Mirror.

Wayne believes that he was very suitable for his role in Rear Mirror, “With my current age and temperament, I’m not really suitable for passionate stories. Although the story of Rear Mirror is rather mellow, it’s sublime. I put in my all for the role. Some asked why a bus driver can be so refined, but my elder brother used to sell fish, and he was very well-read. There are exceptions to everything.”

The third installment of the Rosy Business franchise, No Reserve <巾幗梟雄之諜血長天> still has no air date although it had completed filming last year. Earlier, it was rumored that 15 episodes from the 30-episode war drama were cut due to its content being too explicit for prime-time television. No Reserve was also dropped from the 2014 anniversary drama lineup.

Wayne denied the rumors. “In all my years of working with TVB, I have never filmed a drama that was designated as an Anniversary drama at such early stages in its production. And they say that 15 episodes were cut from 30 episodes. How is it possible for a drama to have 15 episodes of explicit scenes?”

When speaking about his No Reserve costar Myolie Wu (胡杏兒), who is rumored to leave TVB next year, Wayne will support Myolie’s decision if it is true. “She is still young and she needs to go out there and explore. After all, Roger Kwok (郭晉安) and I have done the same! Leave room for the younger generation to take over!”

In regards to Hong Kong’s struggling television station, ATV, requesting to renew its broadcast license, Wayne said he finds Hong Kong’s current broadcasting policies to be disappointing. He said, “Whether ATV continues or not can be left for discussion later. The government needs to take care of its broadcasting policies first. It’s too messy. It criticizes content that has too much product placement, or if another has too much smoking and drinking. Look at South Korean programs—the South Korean government is doing well. If Hong Kong continues to be [so restrictive], then it will be harder for the industry to survive. If no money is coming out, who would want to invest?”

  1. Roger Kwok won his best actor award when he was young and when the competition was strong then … Wayne didn’t become tv king until he is old.. So exactly how is he doing the same as roger

    1. Wayne is only one year older than Roger.

Roger won in 2003 and 2005 and Wayne won in 2009, 2010 & 2012. It is really not that much time between their wins. Roger won TV king twice. Wayne won thrice.

I would say they are both doing well at TVB.

      1. Wayne is only a few months older than Roger .. they are born in the same year.

    2. Wayne was saying that they(himeself & Roger) both have left TVB before to explore different opportunities, not about TV King or awards. So Wayne is saying that he supports Myolie’s leaving TVB to go out & explore.

      I Support what Wayne said

      1. tq for your explanation. young ppl should explore outside. wayne was just quoting him and roger as an example.

    3. he’s not comparing himself w/ roger. he’s giving an example. both are both great actors.

  2. wayne:”After all, Roger Kwok (郭晉安) and I have done the same! Leave room for the younger generation to take over!”

not really true what he said,he was young when he left tvb,how can he say that he leaves room to younger generation?if true what said then he has to venture now. and moreover he was not promoted by tvb back then in the ’90,so the situation with myolie is totaly different.
