Wong Cho Lam Doesn’t Want to Be the King of Comedy

Busy with work, Wong Cho Lam (王祖藍) and Leanne Li (李亞男) barely have time for each other since their marriage. As Cho Lam is currently busy with work in Mainland China, the couple met up in Shenzhen recently as a middle point.

Meeting up for afternoon tea, Cho Lam told the reporters that this was a rare occasion. “Having the time for afternoon tea has already become a desperate wish for us. We had 20 days off for our honeymoon, but after that, we went straight back to work. One is always in the Mainland, and one is always in Hong Kong.”

Cho Lam, who is working on expanding his career in Mainland China, said he can’t give up this career opportunity. He said he is currently writing a new comedy film, which he will also direct. Observant of the comedy industry of Mainland China, which lacks depthness, Cho Lam said he wants to present a different kind of comedy for the Mainland audience.

“Many Chinese comedy films are very funny, but after walking out of the cinema you’ll feel that it lacks something. I want to make a film that is not only funny, but can also bring hope and love.”

The comedy actor loves bringing joy to his audience, but when asked if his life is also as entertaining, he shook his head and said, “Comedy is my specialty and my profession. I want to bring my audience positive energy. It’s not necessary for me to show my life’s difficulties to others.”

Dedicating his life to comedy, is Cho Lam working to be our generation’s new king of comedy? “I  am not the king of comedy. I just want to be the best husband. No matter what kind of career you have, the leader will always give the most. I don’t want to sacrifice my family in exchange for a successful career.”
