Wu Chun Films “Lady of the Dynasty” Due to Short Work Time
Mainland Chinese romance war film Lady of the Dynasty <王朝的女人·楊貴妃> starring Fan Bingbing (范冰冰), Leon Lai (黎明), and Wu Chun (吳尊) premiered in theatres on July 30, 2015. Rarely accepting jobs in recent years in order to spend time with his daughter and son, Wu Chun explained the major reason for his participation this time is due to the short work hours. However, the singer and actor has now fully returned to work since his kids are slightly older.
In the film, Wu Chun portrays Li Mao, the Prince of Shou, and has relatively little screen time. Wu Chun expressed that this was ideal, since he had hoped to return to his family in Brunei as soon as possible. When asked if he would have turned down the film if it took any longer, he admitted, “I would’ve had to consider it if it were to take three months to complete.”
Japanese actor, Shun Oguri (小栗旬), earlier portrayed the Prince of Shou in a different version of the story. This appears to be quite a coincidence, because Wu Chun and Shun Oguri also portrayed the same character in different versions of the drama, Hanazakarino Kimitachihe <花樣少年少女>. Wu Chun exclaimed in surprise as he learned the news, “We have a lot of fate!”
Filming Lady of the Dynasty had been exciting for Wu Chun, because he was not at all familiar with Chinese history. The experience felt like taking history lessons in school. Although intrigued by the storyline, there were parts he could not understand. Wu Chun expressed, “I don’t understand why the Prince of Shou would give up his wife to his father. I would definitely not sacrifice myself like that! I don’t think I would want to live in that time period.”
Initially Nervous to Work With Fan Bingbing
Prior to shooting the film, Wu Chun did not know Fan Bingbing personally. He was quite worried about their collaboration since he is considered a newbie in the movie industry. Fortunately, they got along really well on the first day and Fan Bingbing proved to be a caring costar who let him borrow her hot water bag and jacket.
Speaking of the cast, Wu Chun revealed he was most excited to collaborate with Leon Lai, since he was his fan since childhood. However, Leon portrays his father in the drama and their characters have a strained relationship. Due to their scenes’ influence, they did not chat much behind the camera and did not open up to each other until filming almost wrapped up.
