Xiao Zhan Trains 10 Hours Every Day for “Condor Heroes” Movie

Starring in upcoming wuxia film Legend of the Condor Heroes <射鵰英雄傳: 俠之大者>, Xiao Zhan (肖戰) admits to training over 10 hours per day for his role as Guo Jing.

Since this remake is to commemorate late novelist Louis Cha (金庸), Tsui Hark (徐克) has extremely high expectations for the production and the cast. As Guo Jing is known as one of the best fictional martial artists, with 18 Dragon Subduing Palms being his signature move, Xiao Zhan has no choice but to undergo rigorous  training for the physically challenging role. Playing one of the most classical and righteous characters, Xiao Zhan hopes to give viewers a refreshing surprise.

Remakes of Louis Cha’s classic trilogy always have a guaranteed audience, which is why they occur with such frequency. The Chinese drama remake in 2017 starred Yang Xuwen (楊旭文) and Li Yitong (李一桐). Previous remakes include Hong Kong’s 1994 version starring Chilam Cheung (張智霖) and Athena Chu (朱茵), and China’s 2003 version featuring Li Yapeng (李亞鵬) and Zhou Xun (周迅), and the 2008 version starring Hu Ge (胡歌) and Ariel Lin (林依晨).

Releasing only a concept poster and a 3-second video, the movie is already exploding on social media discussions. In the new film, Genghis Khan leads the Mongolian army south with the primary goal of destroying the Song Dynasty. To save China, Guo Jing enlists the help of the greatest martial artists to fight against the Mongolians.

Exploding into stardom after The Untamed <陳情令>, Xiao Zhan’s popularity has continued to grow.  Many fans are excited to see Xiao Zhan’s version of Guo Jing, claiming he will be the most handsome Guo Jing in history.

  1. My favourite story of the three book is Legend of the Condor Heroes with Guo Jing and Huang Rong. My least favourite is Return of the Condor Heroes with Yang Guo and Xiao LongNu…..

No one can doubt Xiao Zhan’s hard work… He is a very hardworking, steadfast actor. I hope he can handle the role well…. To many actors these days do not understand just how much training is need to take on roles… but it is not all their fault, they have such heavy scheduling by their management company, there is no time to train.

I am actually looking forward to this film but to film a book in 2.5hrs, it is just too adventures… I have yet to watching a good film remake of this Trilogy…

    1. I believe the film is going to be adapted from the part of the book where he + others defend Xiangyang from the Mongolians, and won’t retell the entire novel.

      1. I see…that is wise. It is the moment Huang Rong suggesting the use of parachutes and using lamb legs to climb up snowy mountain… She was told to keep a distance from Guo Jing by his mother…
