Xu Kaicheng and Gulinazha’s “Got a Crush On You” Quietly Airs After Cheating Scandal
No celebrity is safe from being banned due to indecency or inappropriate behavior in China, and often they could be one of the most popular actors. In 2022, Xu Kaicheng (徐開騁) was accused of being a serial cheater by his ex-girlfriend Crystal Zhang Tianai (張天愛). He was suspected by the media to have had a fling with Got a Crush on You <戀戀紅塵> costar Gulinazha (古力娜扎).
Xu Kaicheng propelled to stardom after 2019’s Well-Intended Love < 奈何BOSS要娶我> became a sleeper hit on Netflix. After Crystal’s outcry, Xu Kaicheng immediately became blacklisted despite his public apology. Gulinazha posted on social media claiming she was unaware of his relationship with Crystal and that she was a victim. Although Gulinazar was criticized, her career suffered less than Xu Kaicheng.
Due to Xu Kaicheng’s cheating scandal, Got a Crush on You was shelved from broadcast for more than one year. Not wanting to lose out on the investment completely, the studios quietly aired Got a Crush on You on December 7 without any promotions and little media coverage.
In June, Xu Kaicheng’s A Date with the Future <照亮你> was aired after AI technology was used to swap out his face. His name was removed from the cast list while William Chan (陈伟霆) and Zhang Ruonan (章若楠) remain as the primary cast.
