Chinese actress Yang Mi (楊冪) has starred in various classic drama and movie productions and is a screen goddess to many audiences. Little would anyone know that the actress’s childhood ambition was in art!

Expressing her art dreams, the 37-year-old revealed during an interview that the only time she made a request to her parents was expressing her wish to enrol in Xu Beihong Academy in Beijing. However, they opposed this as they felt that being an artist held no future, in fact many artists would attain fame only after death.

A child star, Yang Mi was part of the cast of The Legend of Condor Heroes <神鵰俠侶>, when she had to make a decision regarding her future. During her free time on set, she discussed her plans with co-stars, actors Huang Xiaoming (黃曉明) and Liu Yifei (劉亦菲) and eventually decided to follow in their footsteps to enrol in Beijing Film Academy!

Having spent many hours practicing her illustrating skills in childhood, the actress shared her own drawing of mythological dragon prince Ao Bing after watching the 2019 movie Birth of the Demon Child <哪吒之魔童降生>. Impressed netizens’ remarked, “Such a good artist, pity she went into acting!” The actress also did a watercolor painting of The Little Prince on variety program Divas Hit the Road Season <花兒與少年4>, impressing celebrity guests. The mother of Little Sticky Rice (小糯米) once mentioned that she would surely encourage her daughter to pursue her dreams fearlessly.
