Yang Mi Shoots Down Rumors of Discord with In-Laws
Despite rumors of discord between Yang Mi (楊冪) and her in-laws, the actress maintains that their relationship is actually extremely good and that she treats them like she does her own parents.
Ever since marrying Hawick Lau (劉愷威) in January and giving birth to a daughter in June, Yang Mi has faced rumors that she does not get along with Hawick’s father, Lau Dan (劉丹), and his mother. However, in a recent interview, Yang Mi shared that while she gives her in-laws the respect they deserve as her elders, she also views them as friends.
“They are very open-minded and are willing to talk about anything with me,” she said. Her mother-in-law in particular is very considerate, always making soup for Yang Mi during her pregnancy and afterward. “Many people say that my post-natal complexion is not bad, but it’s really due to Grandma’s soup,” she explained.
Yang Mi also revealed that whenever these negative rumors surface in gossip magazines, her mother-in-law will purchase the magazine and bring it home so the entire family can read it and enjoy a laugh. One time, Lau Dan was approached by a reporter when playing tennis; a few days later, a news report ran a story about Yang Mi being a terrible daughter-in-law. Lau Dan simply told her, “Don’t pay any attention to them.”
Hawick Lau in Agreement with Yang Mi
Hawick is in complete agreement with Yang Mi, saying that there was never any enmity between his parents and his wife: “My wife’s relationship with my father and mother have always been good. My father treats my wife like a half-daughter!”
When asked whether he wants to try for a son, Hawick replied, “The arrival of children truly is a gift from God. I will let nature take its course, but of course I do wish for the house to be a little livelier.”
