Yang Mi to Produce Chinese Version of “Gossip Girl”

Many mainland Chinese leading actresses are trying to enter Hollywood. The most recent one to take a shot at international stardom is Yang Mi (楊冪). Earlier, she confirmed that she will be producing a Chinese version of American teen drama, Gossip Girl.
This week, Yang Mi met with entertainment and media mogul and founder of E! Entertainment Television, Larry Namer, and the popular actress from The Vampire Diaries, Katerina Graham. Yang Mi was later interviewed by Hello! Hollywood.
During the past few years, favorite mainland Chinese stars, Fan Bingbing (范冰冰), Li Bingbing (李冰冰), and Xu Jinglei (徐靜蕾) have started their own production studios to have greater creative control over their own projects, while targeting an international market.
Following their footsteps is Yang Mi. Her popularity in the greater China region increased after she starred as Luo Qingchuan in TV drama, Palace <宮>. Attempting to expand her profile and career overseas, Yang Mi appeared at the Cannes Film Festival and also setting her eyes on Hollywood.
Earlier this year, Yang Mi established her own production studio. Aside from working on short movies for new media, Yang is moving into TV series production. In March, Yang Mi stated that with the cooperation and support of Larry Namer and others, she will be producing a Chinese version of the American television series, Gossip Girl. The working title of the drama is currently dubbed as Chinese Girl.
Yang Mi was seen in Hollywood this week meeting with Larry Namer. Aside from discussing details about the Chinese version of Gossip Girl, Yang Mi is likely paving for a career in Hollywood. Larry announced earlier on his blog that he will be meeting with his favorite mainland actress, but failed to disclose whom. Pictures of Yang Mi’s visit were later uploaded to his blog. The pictures reveal that Yang Mi was interviewed by Hello! Hollywood, and then met with Katerina Graham, who plays the witch Bonnie Bennett in Vampire Diaries.
Although Larry was not forthcoming about motives of Yang Mi’s visit, netizens speculated that Yang will have a guest appearance in The Vampire Diaries or she could be working on an entirely new project.

hope its true, would love to see how yang mi will act in vampire diaries if this is true.
It is tough to enter the Hollywood circle for asian artists. But regardless of what the results are, as long as you try then there will be no regrets.
Chinese girl….what?
totally anticipating for this!
Kat Graham’s face is so crooked, looks so much worse next to YM.
YM can introduce Kat to the surgeon who did YM’s face then.
Just when i thought finally GG is coming to an end, here is another chinese version of it. No thank you.
now why on earth would she wanna do that? why in the world is a chinese gossip girl serial even necessary? who in the hell came up with this stupid idea?
but on second thought…some people like idol dramas…idek
oh will be great to see Yang Mi in vampire daries, if it’s true.
Maggie Q got a lead role in NIKITA. Still airing into Season 3 but rating and viewership slipping lower and lower.
big reason why is lower is NYC was blackout due to contract dispute for 10 weeks +. The whole CW network ratings is pathetic then Hong Kong ATV network.
oooo that bad eh… but i kinda like watching NIKITA. Trust it would last at least until Season 3 (wont cancel, hahaha)
Just thank the CW station in NYC to cancel your favorite show for losing audience & advertisement. 🙂
THere are some Asians that are successful. Maggie Q is Eurasian and was born in the US too, so maybe she is in a different league??
She is different not like Lucy Liu league, she needs to be cast on ABC/NBC/CBS dramas, or even FOX that people would notice her…. not CW network.
That’s true but she is a lot more known than she was before…
looove nikita! best show on cw
so disappointed right now… yang mi should stick with chinese dramas.
I think she should stick with CHinese dramas too. But it does not hurt her to try regardless of what the results are.
how is her english ?
You can get an idea by visiting her weibo. She used some type of English-Chinese translator and I know because on one of her posts she said …..thanksgiving, which she meant to say “thanks.”
I like GG but a Chinese version of it, no thanks. It doesn’t fits in Asian culture as well.
Would the Chinese government overdoing censor something too sexy or other things?
Successful, you bet.
The Chinese gossip girl has been in the “works” for like a year! News came out for it in like January… I don’t think its gonna happen any time soon.
The title is bad, Chinese girl? Like I’m not racist, but that name seem racist >__> and to Nicole’s comment about kat graham, I found her face is just weird, it’s not pretty, but it’s not ugly either, just weird lol
I don’t think this will be a bad production but I’m not excited about a Chinese version of GG. The reasons why I liked GG has to do with Northeast American culture (specifically NYC’s). Does anybody know where Chinese Girl will be set?
Its got to be beijing right LOL
