Yoo Ah In Accused of Tampering With Evidence in Drug Case
Currently under investigation, Korean actor Yoo Ah In had illegally used the anesthetic propofol and illegally obtained psychotropic drugs. After hair and urine tests, the Korean actor was shown to also have used marijuana, Ketamine, cocaine, Zolpidem, a sedative hypnotic sold under the brand name Ambien, and two psychotropic drugs, Midazolam and Alprazolam (nicknamed as Butterfly Tablets and sold under the brand name Xanax).
According to the prosecutor’s investigation, Yoo Ah In is suspected of receiving anesthesia about 200 times at a hospital in Seoul under the guise of beauty treatments, purchasing and using propofol (nicknamed “milk shots”) worth about 500 million Korean won. He also illegally obtained about 1,000 sleeping pills using the name of others. In January, he and four other people, including his friend surnamed Choi, used cocaine, marijuana, and other drugs in the United States. He was also suspected of forcing others to smoke marijuana in the United States.
During the investigation, Yoo Ah In, his accomplices, and people involved in the case would share details of the investigation with each other. The actor was also suspected of obstructing judicial proceedings by inducing or coercing others to retract confessions.
The Seoul Central District Prosecutor’s Office filed a petition to detain Yoo Ah In and his friend surnamed Choi on suspicion of violating the Narcotics Control Act, abetting the destruction of evidence, and assisting suspects in escaping. The police had applied for an arrest warrant during their investigation in May, but the court rejected it on the grounds that it was difficult to determine whether the suspect might flee.
