Zhang Linghe Is Adorably Clingy in “The Princess Royal”

Exceeding expectations with their enjoyable onscreen chemistry in The Princess Royal <度華年>, Zhao Jinmai (趙今麥) and Zhang Linghe‘s (張凌赫) successful pairing in the period romance drama sees the actor’s fan numbers surge by over 170k!

Zhang Linghe and Zhao Jinmai Lauded as “Genius Pairing”

As the drama garners praise with its strong pacing and sweet interactions between the leads, viewers said it was “genius” to unite the two leads. Drama producer Yuan Yumei (袁玉梅) revealed that prior to viewing, many viewers tended to link Li Rong’s role with the more mature princesses in other dramas, which is why the production unit initially wanted a post-85 actress in the role.

Princess Li Rong (Zhao Jinmai) and Pei Wen Xuan (Zhang Linghe) had a loveless 30-year union in their first lives, but find themselves reborn at age 18 with memories of their past lives intact. The two joining forces in investigations, with love blossoming.

As the script focused more on Li Rong’s younger days, however, they decided to cast a post-2000, or even post-2005 actress, and Zhao Jinmai was then picked for her proven acting and strong line delivery.

Cementing his status as “Historical male god” with The Story of Kunning Palace <寧安如夢> and My Journey to You <雲之羽>,  Zhang Linghe successfully portrays a very different persona from his previous arrogant roles, oozing clingy, coy and cute vibes aplenty as his pairing with Zhao Jinmai gets viewers hooked in a story of second chances in The Princess Royal.

Praising his romantic scenes, the producer shared that she had watched many interviews and variety show segments done by the actor, and discovered that he had a heartwarming and comedic side to him, which was perfect for the role of Pei Wen Xuan.

Sharing her non-mainstream convictions, Yuan Yumei said she believed the right casting for the script was crucial for bringing characters in the script to life, and was not as fixated on parameters such as the actors’ reputed industry rankings and liuliang (fan following).
