Zhao Lusi Might Not Return to Film “Almost Lover”

Previously rumored to return to the set of Almost Lover <戀人> co-starring actor Peng Guanying (彭冠英), latest word has swirled that actress Zhao Lusi (趙露思) might be relinquishing the series after all, sparking concerns over the romance drama’s eventual fate.

Having carried a string of hit dramas from Who Rules the World <且試天下> with actor Yang Yang (楊洋), Love Like the Galaxy <星漢燦爛> with Leo Wu (吳磊) to Hidden Love <偷偷藏不住> with Chen Zheyuan (陳哲遠), Zhao Lusi has proven her star draw time and again. Recently airing to raving reception, The First Frost <難哄>, sister drama of 2023’s Hidden Love has ignited renewed interest over the actress while putting her every move under the spotlight.

Chinese paparazzi revealed that the stress of having to spontaneously work out up to 70% of her lines for Almost Lover took a toll on Rosy’s already fragile mental health condition then. As the actress made a visible comeback in January since her health crisis last year, the drama’s production team reportedly promised a change of director, scriptwriter and a revamp of the three female leads’ storylines in return for her return to set.

However, both Rosy’s agency and the Almost Lover team have yet to provide updates, staying silent on latest rumors.

Drama Condensed with Fewer Episodes?

Rosy faces compensation if she decides not to return to the set of “Almost Lover”.

Fans of the star were angered that the team did not bother to make any clarification about the “yin yang script” allegations during the months when Rosy was hospitalized. Netizens found it a pity should the work of the entire cast and crew go down the drain, especially given the hype over Rosy’s scenes with Peng Guanying, not to mention the financial losses incurred as investments have already been made.

The best solution for all parties could really be producing and airing a condensed version of the drama with fewer episodes, based on the already completed scenes.

Currently, the actress has Love’s Ambition <許我耀眼> co-starring William Chan (陳偉霆) yet to air, in addition to public welfare variety show A Little Courage <小小的勇氣> which was specially written for her; she will also appear on the cover of men’s magazine Esquire come March 20. Whatever her final decision regarding Almost Lover, fans continue to lend their support in hopes that she can return to filming her next drama.
