Zheng Shuang No Longer Puts Money First
Mainland Chinese actress Zheng Shuang (鄭爽) is currently starring in new drama, Youth Fight < 青春斗>. So far, the drama has received mixed reviews, but this has not discouraged the 27-year-old actress. In commenting on her acting skills in response to negative criticisms, Zheng Shuang revealed that she has matured in her perspective.
Youth Fight is a story that revolves around five different girls who met at university and became good friends. Together, they slowly come to learn on how to resolve their differences between each other, despite struggling to cope with problems in university life and the real workforce. Zheng Shuang portrays Xiang Zhen, a cheerful character which contrasts with her previous gentle roles.
But many viewers feel her role in Youth Fight mirrors Zheng Shuang’s real-life personality. In an interview, she responded that there are indeed some areas that were similar, but there are also differences. She said, “My real personality isn’t so good. I’ll be introverted and have struggles in talking at times. So for a long time, it has been a pressure.”
The 27-year-old said the producer praised her acting in Youth Fight, but she still lacks confidence. Zheng Shuang implies that her acting wasn’t good in the past because of her focus on money. In her early days of debut, Zheng Shuang always believed that she was in good condition and would highly prioritize money when acting.
However, Zheng Shuang has matured and thinks differently now. “Right now, I think you need to put sincere efforts in acting, so that the audience will truly accept and embrace you. I’m already past the age of having young people supporting me now. I feel it’s important to be acknowledged by the broader public. I hope I can receive better roles in the future.” With most of her clothes in Youth Fight purchased online by herself and valued under 50 yuan, it’s evident that Zheng Shuang has matured and goes beyond superficial appearances. Fans even complimented her outfits and said that she made them look like branded clothes.

“Look like branded clothes”? Pretty sure on another article I read, it said her fashion style in the drama was pretty bad and cheap. And she can say she put sincere effort in her acting, yet every drama, the same criticism comes her way in regard of her acting. I don’t think she will ever change.
As long as she does anot accept crap dramas like Hi, I’m Saori. I will support her dramas. She is not a great actress but I still enjoy watching her on screen.
