“A Change of Heart” Opens at 24 Ratings Points

*Spoilers*

A Change of Heart <好心作怪> piloted on Monday and the series opened with ratings of 24 points, drawing over 1.5 million viewers. A Change of Heart took over the time slot of Beauty at War <金枝慾孽貳>, which had plummeted to 18 ratings points during its broadcast. Bosco Wong (黃宗澤) mentioned that if the ratings exceed 30 points, he will get Michael Miu (苗僑偉) and Niki Chow (周麗淇) to appear in swimming trunks and a bikini respectively.

Heavy Flavor Continues

TVB has been pushing bed scenes and incorporating more intimate relationships into their dramas lately, and it looks like A Change of Heart will also feature similar trends. In episode 2, Power (Michael Miu) was seen stuffing dirty underwear into his partner, KY’s (Chan Wing Chun 陳榮峻) mouth because KY was plotting to take over the company. This left audience members cringing at the disgusting scene.

Aside from the underwear scene, Joey Meng (萬綺雯), who typically has a good and clean image, will be cheating on Power with her junior, Benjamin Yuen (袁偉豪). Because of a heart transplant that turned the ruthless Power into a kind businessman, Tang Sin Hang (Joey Meng) refuses to accept the personality change and starts a relationship with the married Ting Jun Ping (Benjamin Yuen). The two will have a heated kiss scene in a car, and when asked about the passionate kiss, Joey awkwardly replied, “I have a dozen men, along with Michael, watching me film the intimate parts and they all jokingly asked if my husband would mind. So I immediately called my husband to let him know, but he was very understanding and didn’t care at all!”

  1. Joey looks so pretty in the above pictures!!
And Michael as dashing as ever!!!!
    Can’t wait to watch this!!!
    And Bosco and Niki!!!!
All pretty and all handsome in this series!!!

  2. I dont think I remember any dramas with Joey in where she isnt an innocent and angelic character. This will be interesting.

      1. What’s your point?
She was super angelic and innocent in Inbound Troubles. LOLZ

But I agree with megamiaow, I believe that it’ll be very interesting to watch Joey play complicated and dark roles.

    1. my date with a vampire…she isn’t innocent or angelic lol…she’s a killer.

      1. oh i dont watch ATV dramas. so far she’s only in one TVB drama and she’s angelic. therefore she’s angelic. and now she’s not! she’s SO COOL LIKE OMG!

  3. I’m watching this for sure. The last few TVB series were garbage. Finally something interesting I hope.

  4. 1st episode was just ok, kinda spoil by Michael’s awful acting. I was not convinced with his I am not sure what sort of acting is that. I think he is a miscast. The rest are ok, and Bosco makes a dashing dr.

    1. Guess it’s not just me. I wasn’t sure at first because it’s been long since I watched a TVB drama and watching this solely because I adore Nikki. I found Michael’s acting really cringe-worthy in the first ep. Those screaming and almost-getting-a-heart attack scenes were not well-executed and awkward as hell IMO.

    2. Michael really overacted badly. I guess, he really wants to make sure the audience understand how different his character will become. Tbh, Michael has never been a particular strong actor and is best in his comfort zone of ‘cool guy’ role. I think he will be better once his character doesn’t have to be so OTT anymore.

Joey is wonderful. All angelic looking but you can see the devil beneath. Both Bosco and Niki have boring goody-goody roles *eyeroll*. Frankly, I find myself more interested in Benjamin and Vincent’s characters because the Benjamin’s character seem like a total sneak and Vincent’s quite goofy.

      1. I love Michael Miu a lot and was also dissapointed in the over acting.
I also agree that he has a few roles he is excellent at, this is not one of them.
He is best at non-emotional evil, cool, light-hearted stuff. – Not crazy, yelling evil/excited guy. It’s quite funny to watch.
I hope it gets toned down after his operation.

      1. Yea agree too. Michael Miu’s acting is too awful when paired up with skilled Joey Meng. I like the pairing of Joey + Roger 🙂 in Inbound Troubles. Their acting skills are formidable! If only Roger didn’t turn down Food for Slaves, I really hope to see them pair up again.

      2. Roger Kwok –

Uh, what plant are you smoking? Michael’s acting is awful compared with skilled Joey meng? Obviously you haven’t seen him during his 80’s series. Comedic

      3. he OD his heart problem. and he dont look that painful. he looks like he’s making fun of his heart problem. which is funny. xDDD

  5. Just watched 1st and 2nd episode, the plot is interesting and the cast are awesome.
Michael Miu character was very cool, especially when he gets mad fire at yelling people. LOL
Bosco and Nikki looks like a good couple…
Can’t wait to watch the rest of the upcoming episodes.

  6. this series look very interesting, I like Michael pairing with Joey, Bosco and Niki look ok too, finally get a good drama.

    1. michael’s acting is too awful to pair with joey who has great acting. bosco and niki’s so called chemistry are overrated by crazy fans.

  7. michael miu’s acting is bad and exaggerated! this guy can’t act and same is niki chow!

    1. bosco doesn’t have breakthrough and is too goody two shoes! only joey has a great breakthrough role and great peformance! she overshadows everyone!

vincent is boring and ugly! he’s not meant for clown roles! can’t wait for mandy and elaine’s breakthrough moments!

      1. agree! joey is awesome here. but her voice is still horseyy and annoying. other than that good acting!!! niki sucks, she’s like a wood, when she’s happy and sad u cant tell. bosco is just being himself??? y cant they act better? they’ve been acting for ages now and they’re not that young in the acting industry. how come there’s not improvements??

      2. Joey has always had this very girly high pitch voice. Niki has never been known to be a great actress but she is pretty. Michael have never been known as a great actor but he is serviceable and he looks great for his age. Joey looks haggard in here though.

  8. Joey Meng not only pretty and elegant that she good actress as well .
Mention about ATV …i think she’s only one i got strong impression . For me , she’s kinda “Pretty With Brain “.

  9. Honestly, the only reason why I even considered watching this drama was because I knew that Niki was the female lead. She was one of my favorite actresses growing up, and remains to be to this day. I hope that this drama does not disappoint. 🙂

P.S. It thrills me when people accidentally spell her name with two k’s instead of one because then we indirectly have the exact same name. xD

    1. but her acting is not impressive. she has not feeling when she talks. she’s the same exact character as in the other one with Raymond wong. or all the dramas with the righteous character role…like omg in every since drama she’s like this~

    2. agree. niki is so wooden and she looks and acts just like how she was in sergeant tabloid! she uses the same niki expressions all the time. she reminds me of tavia yeung and raymond lam who acts in a similar tone and expressions for most of their series.

  10. I really enjoyed the 1st 2 eps. Joey is beautiful and elegant. cant wait to see more

  11. I find that Michael Miu is best in portraying flirtatious/ charming characters such as Chor Lau Heung. Felix Wong is better in more dramatic portrayals.

Michael has charisma and charm and he is famous for being a Five Tiger, not necessarily known for impeccable acting skills.

    1. michael is good in dramatic roles too, such as highs and lows. he’s charismatic with the mustache.

      1. I dunno bout that ‘stache’. Apparently there is no more tvb distributor in our city so we have to rely on bootlegs. The quality is really bad 🙁

I heard we can watch it online but I haven’t found good sites to watch tvb series.

  12. “The two will have a heated kiss scene in a car,”

Oh no, I am so jealous, that Benjamin Yuen is so lame, i should be the man kissing her, muacks, muacks, Jpoey. Hehehe,

    1. keep ur fantasy to urself. no one need to know about your “turn on”

  13. Michael’s character is a ott eccentric rich dude so, I think he’s doing a good job portraying his character. Anyways, it’s about time there’s something decent to watch.

  14. this is a good series 🙂 i wish the ratings were higher :/

  15. Fun fact: the actor who plays Michael’s partner KY (mentioned in the article) also played his sidekick (Wu Teet Fa) in Chor Lau Heung.

    1. @Shrimpboat: Haha…you noticed it too, huh? The guy’s name is Chan Wing Chun — long time TVB veteran actor. Too bad he only has such a minor role in here…missed seeing those 2 on screen together.

      1. I feel really bad for the guy. He has had a hard life and all he gets now are evil jerk/villian roles, even though his acting is better when he plays good guys.
I felt sad for him to get humiliated in the 2 or 3rd episode. He doesn’t deserve that, they could have written something else less gross and demeaning.
TVB really don’t treat him well. I hope he can find a good home at HKTV if they ever get their license.

  16. Michael Miu’s acting sux. So awarkward when he wants to show he has breathing issues. Crap.

    1. actually someone with CHF with an EF% of 30 will have breathing issues like that

      1. he dont look that painful and annoyed… he looks like he’s having fun when he’s having a breathing issue. O_o

      2. he’s unnatural as heart patient whether the breathing issue should happen or not.

  17. I watch 2 episodes and not feel interested to continue so i quit. The series is boring and the lead actor’s acting is suck!

  18. Actually he’s not really overracting ppl with his conditions often have shortness of breath when they speak or involved in some kind of physical activity. It’s not really a painful thing just exhausting

    1. when people criticise michael for overacting it’s not just for those breathing scenes but for many other scenes too. you should watch how he tried to be funny but end up funny because looking exaggerated instead of naturally funny. he tried too hard and comes off unnatural!

      1. I’m just saying we shouldn’t judge that character because his main role is the one after the heart transplant. I’m sure he’ll be better by then. He’s not a bad actor, anyways who in TVB is actually flawless..none.

  19. I find the plot to be really really unreasonable. Characters die randomly and everyone acts like nothing happened a few minutes later. It’s as if it was all a joke. I laughed so hard watching Michael’s scenes. Not sure if he intended humor or not, but it was hilarious. The ending theme song is really good, but wth is up with that MV?! LOL

    1. I find it to be more real, some ppl don’t take death seriously especially when it’s ppl they don’t care about. Ppl like Michael and Joey exists in reality.

      1. Michael and Joey’s characters supposedly care a lot for the dead doctor though. Anyhow, the doctor’s death is acceptable, but what about that cop? The way he died was so stupid. TVB needs better ideas! The police team just watched their boss gulf down that egg tart in silence….

    2. It’s an interesting story though. The idea of a man having a change of personality because he literally changed his heart. I prefer the cutie mui and Marianne chen version where they did have a change of heart literally but the change came within themselves rather than literally having a new heart = new person. The MV is ok. I get the meaning. I just feel entire story is perhaps probably kicked in the credentials part by having Bosco having a twin brother? Why not give us the shock value; he’s dead, HE IS DEAD. Another actor in.

And why is Vincent in silly looking characters?

That being said I did not have the urge to watch more of this series. Somehow something feels tired. And Michael is a miscast.

      1. The story will only kick in when the big brother died and his heart transferred to the crude businessman, and when the younger twin enters the picture. Why the twin? It’s for conflict in the former girlfriend’s feeling, to get her stuck between a man who has her late boyfriends “personality”; or a man who has the almost exact “appearance” but with different personality. It will be a challenge at Niki’s acting.

      2. Vincent is ok, there’s nothing wrong with him in this otaku getups and he has great chemistry with Bosco. I have this strange imagination that Dr Tong has a boy crush on Dr Yiu when he said “I’ll do anything for you”, grabs his shoulder, and Dr Yiu inches away slowly.

      3. “It’s for conflict in the former girlfriend’s feeling, to get her stuck between a man who has her late boyfriends “personality”; or a man who has the almost exact “appearance” but with different personality.”

That’s boring and so usual and nothing new, frankly. But I do hope she ends up with Michael because at least it has something different; a husband leaving her loving wife. But seriously, the storyline sounds boring to me. This time I rather have shock value, another actor for the role. And if she ends up with her lover’s twin brother, that will be so weird isn’t it?

      4. Ah Funn, I see now, it’s your personal preference, then I can say too that I want Bosco in this drama, as the main actor he is, as promised by the drama. He’s handsome and is a fine actor as is doing subtly well so far. If you don’t like to watch him or his acting, it’s easy; either you skip his scenes or grab another drama to get “another actor”.

The overall plot isn’t the best and quite draggy but I find myself still following every episode. It’s subjective.

    3. @Funn
Yeah, the concept is interesting, but the drama somehow gives me the Men With No Shadows vibe (only much better). Let’s see how it continues to develop.

The MV also reminds me of the one in The Mysteries of Love.

  20. I got the chance to glimpse at episode one, but I didn’t quite catch why the couples wanted to kill the doctor? Did I miss something? Or it remains to be seen..

    1. It was meant to be a harmless prank the death was somewhat accidental.

    2. It was a prank turned deadly and shocking and then funny and then silly and then stupid. I thought what a way to kill off that character and not a single shred guilt by the perpetrators.

      1. @Funn: Totally understand what you mean! I personally feel like the plot is weak in many areas (only 4 episodes in and already I see numerous flaws with the script). So far, with the deaths that have occurred (not counting Dr Yiu’s yet), it comes across as though each death is done somewhat ‘haphazardly’ so that it can pave the way for another character to take over. Like when Joe Junior’s character dies, it’s like no one really cared (sure, they had that funeral for him, but honestly that was a joke)….then when Henry Lo’s character dies, there’s like no reaction from the people who worked with him (Benz and crew) — even the reaction from his wife and son were kind of forced in my opinion.

While I feel the series is decent overall (so far), I sort of get the feeling it might go in the direction of being too ‘silly’ and ‘ridiculous’….I don’t know, I guess we’ll have to wait and see….

  21. Which episode is airing now? Waiting for episode 17. Left hanginggg
