Nicky Wu and Cecilia Liu Invite Laughter in “Incisive Great Teacher”
Rather than overwhelming viewers with a flood of tears, real-life couple Nicky Wu (吳奇隆) and Cecilia Liu (劉詩詩) are now evoking a flood of laughter with their new romantic comedy drama, Incisive Great Teacher <犀利仁師>, which began airing on June 4.
Thanks to Nicky and Cecilia’s previous two dramas, Bu Bu Jing Xin <步步驚心> and Bu Bu Jing Qing <步步驚情>, fans have become accustomed to associating the “LongShi” couple with angst and tragedy. However, the two prove with their new collaboration that they can shine in a comedy setting as well. In the first three episodes, their characters have already been involved in physical and verbal sparring, which started when Liu Aotian (Nicky Wu) accidentally messed up a marriage-search tournament initiated by Lu Yunfei (Cecilia Liu).
Though this is Nicky and Cecilia’s first time acting in a comedy series together, their chemistry and mutual sense of comedic timing is impeccable. Moreover, Aotian and Yunfei interact so naturally that many viewers wondered if Nicky and Cecilia were simply channeling their normal interactions from real life. Indeed, Nicky, who is known for fooling around on set, was quite prone to engaging in wacky behavior on set. Surprisingly, Cecilia occasionally took part as well.
Apart from the realistic performances, Incisive Great Teacher also gets a comedic edge thanks to its editing team, which expertly added funny sound effects, hilarious animations, and amusing subtitles to highlight the drama’s humor. Unlike most mainland Chinese dramas, Incisive Great Teacher uses a liberal amount of animated elements, such as cute manga illustrations of Nicky and Cecilia in the opening and ending theme songs.
Moreover, Incisive Great Teacher uses its witty dialogue to poke fun at modern slang, despite being set in ancient times. The drama mentions aspects such as hoping for a husband who is “tall, rich, and handsome,” expressing one’s love on “201314” (which sounds similar to “love you forever”), and going on arranged blind dates in an attempt to find a partner.

actually, the rating is average but have positive views so is not really that bad. the comedy leaving me laughing a lot that i expected.

Honestly speaking, Not a bad show and surprisingly quite funny ! Personally I think “incisive Great Teacher” is better than “perfect couple” even though I love Wallace Huo
Forced humour much >_> nicky just dont look good with that hair and period drama >_> or why does he always don that hairstyle in every period drama (minus qing of course)
It looks low budget >_> not interesting, and predictable humour situation -.- and i like how the cartoon drawing of the two leads are so beautiful and cute, (even though nicky dont look any bit remotely cute as his cartoon character), and down play everyone else cartoon character… Even wallace… Like really, nicky is better than wallace?
