Synopsis of Raymond Wong’s “Karma Rider”
TVB successfully managed to boost their ratings with Awfully Lawful <熟男有惑>, and with the finale of the comedy coming close, the station decided to release costume drama Karma Rider <師父·明白了>, in its broadcasting slot. The drama will air on July 15.
Karma Rider stars Raymond Wong (黃浩然), Priscilla Wong (黃翠如), Evergreen Mak (麥長青), Cilla Kung (樂瞳), Yoyo Chen (陳自瑤), Whitney Hui (許亦妮), Matt Yeung (揚明), and Kaki Leung (梁嘉琪). The plot centers on the ancient legend of the Butterfly Lovers and is packed with action and romance, continuing the “Amazing Summer” line up TVB has planned.
Synopsis
Heung Yat Jeen (Raymond Wong) was saved by a kind-hearted man when he was young and since then, his life ambition was to become the world’s best detective. His training and hard work paid off when he solved a mystery case on his first day of work. However, his superior, Ching Ying Hung (Matt Yeung), was envious of Yat Jeen’s glory and purposely sent him on a dangerous mission to capture a mass murderer, Yi Teen Bong (Evergreen Mak).
Along the way, Yat Jeen encounters Foon Hei (Priscilla Wong) who saves him numerous times. However, being on opposing sides, Yat Jeen begins to have dreams of himself as Zhu Ying Tai from the Butterfly Lovers legend. He continues to believe that his fate with Foon Hei is the reincarnation of the legend and that they are destined to be ill-fated lovers. With the sudden appearance of the daughter of a wealthy merchant, Wu Deep (Yoyo Chen), Yat Jeen’s wild imagination and delusions of the Butterfly Lovers legend spins out of control.
Whitney Hui Versus Priscilla Wong
Appearing in numerous costume dramas in the past, Raymond admitted that this is the first time where he had to fully shave his head for his role. With his handsome looks, courage, and sense of righteousness, he successfully captured the hearts of both Priscilla and Whitney’s characters – forming a love triangle.
While this is the second time where Priscilla is taking on a heavy-weight role, it is the first costume series for Miss Hong Kong second runner-up, Whitney. Since TVB is lacking actors, they have been heavily promoting fresh faces such as Priscilla and Whitney. In the series, Whitney will be playing a courageous detective alongside Raymond and eventually falls in love with him and goes against her rival, Priscilla.

How did Priscilla gets offered a main lead in every series that she is cast? Where there is plentky of other actress that doesn’t get the chance or never will and they can act. Don’t really like her from seeing her performance from reality check.
Priscilla Wong has a close relationship with TVB executive Sandy Yu and this may be the reason she gets lead roles in all series she is cast even though she is ugly and her acting is so bad.
If that is true then that shows you how many doors can open for anyone due to connections which is what is needed to succeed in many cases.
i dont think she is ugly, and her acting is bearable.
She is not good-looking but definitely not ugly. And her acting is better than Sire Ma. At least it is not annoying.
I have seen a single good ancient series from TVB for a long time. I wonder how this one will be???
Exactly! Hoping this one is a good one 🙂
Me too but it seems like TVB is getting cheaper and cheaper when it comes to ancient series since they take more time and effort to make. No wonder the have been making so many modern series.
Whitney is beautiful and has star potential.
Agree. Whitney is pretty. I hope she acts well too.
Dislike like Priscilla..her acting suck. Whitney pretty.
me too.
Storyline sounds confusing and it most probably is. Can’t they make up their mind? Detective series? Romance series? A man with psychology problem? What?!
A big disappointment for the cast, and I been looking forward to a costume drama for so long.
There is more to a series than the cast, but the plot is what concerns me since it sounds really confusing. Hopefully it is better than what is stated above.
Actually the cast can decide if I watch something or leave it altogether, no matter how good the plot is. If I find a person irritating to watch, the plot is not going to save it.
Well you are one of the ones that really care for the cast. I care for the story/plot and other factors a lot more. You have a good cast but a bad storyline so even a good cast cannot save it. But if there is a good cast and bad storyline, I just cannot watch it all together since the storyline is what carries you through the series.
Disappointed that Priscilla Wong is the lead and the storyline sounds like a mess! Only thing good is that Matt Yeung and Yoyo Chen are finally getting a bigger role they deserve!
raymond wong again after his slew of bad performances this year? why tvb promoting this guy too much when he’s not even a contract artiste? don’t get me started on priscilla wong. she was plain and bland as the lead actress in reality check. rebecca and louise lee overshadowed her although she’s the lead!
i just don’t why they had to mix a detective story to the butterfly lovers. very confusing. i wished they stayed with the bosco version at the previous sales presentation with kate and Michael tse.
Agree
I guess they are just trying to get creative but it ends up being a mess instead.
Quite unappealing story and cast. Everyone’s gonna be focused on TITS2 anyways
Yea, and I find that sad that it seems like TVB cannot produce anymore decent or good ancient series. Their modern series have been really bad lately too.
Woa Raymond look very thin in the photo. I don’t know who Priscilla and Whitney are, had to google their photos. Priscilla is not that bad looking as mention above, maybe she will be like a Charmaine bad in the beginning and not so attractive, but look at Charmaine now, he acting is better and she even looks more prettier than before. Whitney reminds me of betty sun
Don’t expect too much about TVB ancient drama since they always produce terrible period/ancient series :p
I would not say that always produce bad ancient series. They used to have quite a few good ones in the past and had many good ones in the 80s and 90s. However, lately all of their series be it modern or ancient are really bad and low quality.
Not sure if I’ll like it but, I guess I have to wait for next week to aired.
There’s another wuxia drama, which is Cold Mountain Hidden Dragon. It looks interesting to me and I hope Karma Rider will be good too.
@Kelly- I don’t think TVB is going to make more wuxia drama cause i don’t think the audience will like it or not but TVB made alot of modern series and stuff so they probably would stick to something that would get the audience’s attention.
Well You just have to see if it’s interesting and good. The cast looks weak but I only like Evergreen, Yoyo, and Matt.
Raymond handsome… wtf… HK must really be short of actors or and standards.
