Synopsis of Ruco Chan’s “Reality Check”
Succeeding The Day of Days’ <初五啟市錄> 9:30 PM time slot on Hong Kong’s TVB Jade channels will be 20-episode drama Reality Check <心路GPS>, which will premiere on February 18, 2013.
The modern-day serial, which was previously known by the working title, Heart Road GPS, is the TVB comeback drama produced by returning executive producer Lee Yim Fong (李艷芳). Her last production for TVB was 1996’s One Good Turn Deserves Another <地獄天使>, which starred Maggie Cheung Ho Yee (張可頤) and Louisa So (蘇玉華).
Louise Lee (李司棋) and Ruco Chan (陳展鵬) star in Reality Check, flanked by a strong supporting cast that features Evergreen Mak (麥長青), Rebecca Chan (陳秀珠), Rachel Kan (簡慕華), and Law Lok Lam (羅樂林). TVB rookies, Priscilla Wong (黃翠如) and Hero Yuen (阮政峰), will also be starring in main roles.
Reality Check largely centers on the story of television director Ha Yat Cheung (Ruco Chan), the son of Lau Chui Wan (Louise Lee). Cheung is busy preparing for a reality show that documents the experiences of Hong Kong youth, Cheung Chun Kit (Hero Yuen), living in the poor farming villages of mainland China. Because the television station is falling short in personnel, Cheung hires newcomer Hui Mei Fung (Priscilla Wong) as his assistant director. He also convinces his best friend, Leung Chung Shun (Evergreen Mak) to be the reality show’s cameraman and cinematographer.
The reality show changes Cheung’s life. Aside from witnessing Kit’s drastic change in character and cultural habits, Cheung also has to overcome some hard challenges of his own. The subjective and stubborn Cheung regrets hiring Fung as his assistant director, who is outspoken, hardworking, and unafraid to challenge others. Cheung’s relationship with his foster mother Wan and birth mother Ha Siu Han (Rebecca Chan) is also turning for the worst. Will Cheung ever be able to piece back together his shattered spiritual heart?
